Position: Postdoctoral Researchers
Dr. Sofia Michailidou is an agriculturist and a Research Associate at the Institute of Applied Biosciences - Centre for Research and Technology Hellas. She received her M.Sc. from the School of Agriculture of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) in 2011 and her PhD from the Faculty of Health Sciences, School of Veterinary Medicine of AUTH, in 2018. Her expertise is on computational and applied population genetics, as well as conservation strategies for animal and plant species. The areas of scientific interests mainly involve the study of genomic characterization, identification and large-scale genotyping of mammalian and plant species, the study, isolation and quantification of genes that are related to productive and reproductive traits in both animal and plant species and the traceability of food and biological specimens with modern molecular techniques. Through the participation of various R&D projects, her current research is mostly focused on Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) applications and technologies (genomics, transcriptomics, metatranscriptomics, metagenomics) with many years of experience on different NGS platforms. Over the years she has published several articles in international peer-reviewed and refereed journals in the field of molecular biology and genomics. Moreover, she has experience in using Unix/Linux environments and processing data through terminal/command line, as well as analyzing large datasets using R programming language.
