Zoe Hilioti
Position: Researchers
Zoe Hilioti earned a bachelor’s degree in Plant Sciences from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (1991) and an M.Sc. degree in Greenhouse Management and Plant Production from Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania (1993). She holds a Ph.D. degree in Plant Molecular Biology from Penn State University (1998). She was a recipient of fellowships from the Greek State Scholarship Foundation and the Gerondelis Foundation. Later, she received a postdoctoral fellowship from National Institutes of Health (NIH, NIDDK) (1999-2001) to study Cell biology with focus on Cell Cycle. She was a researcher in a number of projects relating to Cell Signaling Regulation using Systems Biology and Microfluidics approaches at Johns Hopkins University in the departments of Biology (2001-2004) and Biomedical Engineering (2004-2009). When she joined the Institute of Agrobiotechnology (later INAB) as researcher in 2010, she focused on Genome Editing technologies and developed a novel design with the first application in tomato. She also conducts research on systems-level understanding of plant morphogenesis and metabolic constitution for selection of high value-added crops, bioenergy crop improvement, eco-friendly approaches in promoting sustainable agriculture practices and application of phytochemicals to control fungal pathogens.
