The Institute of Applied Biosciences has successfully contributed to the Emblematic Actions on vitis cultivars, Greek wines, olives and olive oil. The Institute had a key role in the genetic and genomic characterization of Greek varieties.
On March 13rd, 2022, at the Zappeion Megaron in Athens, within the context of the largest exhibition on Greek wines "Oinorama", the results of the Emblematic Action of the Greek Wine Roads were presented by the project partners to an diverse audience of relevant stakeholders.
In addition, within the frame of the research project on Olive Roads, a flagship initiative in Greece, results on Greek olive varieties were presented. Genetic, genomic and transcriptome results, performed by INAB’s research group were presented by Prof. Anagnostis Argyriou, emphasizing on their usefulness in the field of genetic material, winemaking and the need to strengthen the Greek identity of local varieties and food products as well as the importance for the national economy of quality assurance and authenticity, on products such as olive oil and table olives, which are food products of major national interest that should be further promoted.
